Tuesday 18th - Mystery Pier Bookstore

Hidden away behind Book Soup in Sunset Strip, is a book lover's delight. A pure hidden gem called  Mystery Pier Books.

With opening hours till 7pm, we got there just after, but found the door was not locked so in we went.

The owner is an English Gentleman called Harvey Jason, and his stock is only first editions. The shop is a true treasure trove and if we were millionaires, we could have spent a fortune.

Mr Jason is an obvious book lover and he knows his stuff. He also knew we were not going to buy any of  his first editions but he was so gracious and showed us books he thought would be of interest to us.

In the Last Bookstore yesterday, the Beeb got a book about Houdini.

Tonight he held in his hands the first edition of a book written by Houdini and signed by the man himself, which had a price tag of $7,500.

Mr Jason's son Louis works at the store and he is certainly gathering as much knowledge on first editions as his dad. After Minty revealed her passion for True Crime, Louis mentioned that he had a personal letter from Moors Murderer Ian Brady (gulp!).

Framed photos lining the walls of the shop (in between bookcases) reveal how much of a friend to the stars Mr Jason is, with loads of photos of him with film and rock royalty, including The Beeb's idol, Jimmy Page. Mr Jason told us that his busiest time is around Oscar night as many celebrities come in to buy "gifts".

That was a wondrous hour spent.
