Friday 21st - Forest Lawn

Happy Birthday Minty. 50 years old today.

We took another trip out to Hollywood & Vine on the metro and walked the short distance down to Sunset Boulevard and along to Amoeba for another browse around.

Today we saw the Capitol Records tower in daylight.

On the way, The Beeb found a blank star - obviously set aside for him.

The remainder of the day was to be spent in Orange County, Cerritos to be exact, but first we went to Cypress, which is literally next door to say hello to The Beeb's rock and roll idol, Eddie Cochran, who is laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

We hit the highway with the mid afternoon sun blazing.

With the help of our Sat Nav ("Shut it ya cow" seemed to be the Beeb's favourite refrain), we found our way to Forest Lawn easily.
The place sprawls over a large area and we went into the reception area to find out where Eddie was.

The mortuary building is rather beautiful, with hints of colonialism with grand design and columns. The white washed church just along from that  looked great as the sun was beginning to get low.

Trying to follow the plan to find Eddie

The map we were given by reception was not the easiest to read (blocks and letters that were hard to correlate with those on the ground as they had faded and been worn away!). He is in the Abiding Faith section, plot 4 of section 2996!!

Eventually we found him, buried in between his Mom, Alice and Dad, Frank.

His Mom always hung onto his guitar and would not let anyone at it. Wonder where it ended up.....

Another of The Beeb's plectrums found a good home.

Sunset had really taken hold by the time we were ready to leave, and we got another shot of the full moon as a backdrop to the Stars and Stripes.
